Five on Friday

1.  Anna Reaghan had her 1 month check-up on Wednesday, and she received a clean bill of health!  Not only that, but we learned she's gaining at about TWICE the rate she "needs" to!  WOO HOO!!!  We have been marveling and rejoicing over her almost 2 oz/day gain the rest of the week (at least 1 oz/day is what doctors are looking for from babies her age).  THRILLED and THANKFUL do not even begin to describe it! :)  Way to go, AR!  Thank you, Lord!

2.  I had several growth/feeding related questions for the doctor that all became somewhat irrelevant when we found out AR is growing JUST fine, but I asked them anyway.  She finally said to me, "I think your experience this time is going to be night and day different than with Asa.  You don't need to worry."  Wow.

3.  In case I haven't mentioned it, Asa is ALL about the original Cars movie.  He was not allowed to watch tv before AR was born.  Television is not recommended for children under 2, I'd rather he interact with people in real life than stare at a screen, and there just didn't seem to be any benefit from it.  He was perfectly entertained with me and his toys and books.  Enter "newborn baby sister" and the juggling act that comes with vying for attention and two kiddos needing to be fed, etc., etc.  Asa now watches up to 1 short show in the morning and 1 short show in the afternoon... he seems to prefer (drum roll, please) clips of Cars, Bubble Guppies, and Team UmiZoomi.  Bubble Guppies and Team UmiZoomi are both actually pretty educational, so I don't feel quite so guilty when he watches a 30 minute episode while AR nurses or I fix dinner.  And I can't say Cars is educational, BUT his attachment to the characters is PRECIOUS.  I'll try to get a video of him playing with his matchbox sized versions of the cars.  It's so, so sweet how he knows all their names and acts out his favorite parts of the movie (Doc racing on the dirt track, tractor tipping--but NOT Frank as he's terrified of Frank, and when the cars all dance through Radiator Springs when their neon lights are fixed).

4.  Asa is also showing an interest in trains and dinosaurs.  Which genre of toys will win his heart in the end remains to be seen, but I *am* looking at vehicle-related ideas for a big boy room later this year or next summer. ;)  Then again, another kind of play could swoop in and trump cars, dinos, and trains all together!

5.  Finally, our BIIIIG news.... Last night we bought a VAN!  We've debated this for awhile and particularly the timing of when to make the big switch.  And it IS a big switch as I've driven a WONDERFUL, LOVED, and MISSED Accord since we got married (thank you, Dad & Mom!).  I teared up a couple times yesterday thinking of leaving Ace (the Accord) behind at the dealer when we went to pick up the van.  Ace has served us BEYOND well with NO trouble EVER, but with 2 kids who are both rear facing (not much leg room for me in the Accord) and the long trips it still takes to get home to see family, it seemed now was a good time to see what was out there.  We were hoping to find something before our holiday travels, but an amazing van became available at the right price and we got the trade-in value we wanted for the Accord.  So, I am now a minivan momma.  It's pretty crazy! :)  We'll have pictures soon, I'm sure. :)  Thank you, Lord, for the blessing of this van!  We're praying it runs well for a looooong, looooong time. :)

I limited Coco's television before Arthur was born, and I still try to keep it to 30 to 60 minutes a couple of times a week. Arthur is an addict. He asks for it often and thoroughly enjoys all shows, which has made it even tougher to keep it off. His favorite is Yo Gabba Gabba, and he can ask for it by name. He uses his cute, 'I don't know' hand gesture, which accompanies most questions. And he dances and sings and says good bye at the end. It's too precious.

Miss you, Kubos!
