Five on Friday

1.  Asa has really enjoyed the book What Do You Do With a Tail Like That? lately at rest time and bedtime.  One of the animals it highlights is the bush baby (or "smush baby" as Asa accidentally called it.  Oh how we giggled over that one) and its large eyes for seeing at night.  Yesterday when I got Asa up from his nap, he commented that I turned on the hall light so he could see.  Then he added, "The bush baby has big eyes so it can see at night."  He is such a sponge!!

2.  We are mostly back to our pre-Anna Reaghen television levels with Asa (which was ZERO).  But if he's having an off day (or if she is), he sometimes gets to watch a short show while I'm feeding her or getting her down for a nap.  I have an easier time saying, "Yes" without guilt now that it's not an everyday thing like it was when she was first born. :)  We usually watch Bubble Guppies or Team Umi Zoomi with one particular episode of Max & Ruby thrown in now and then.  But this week he discovered Sid the Science Kid.  I think Bubble Guppies is still my favorite, but this is a really fun 2nd place favorite.  The Sid episode that is his favorite thus far is about rollie polies (and using magnifying lenses).  Before lunch today, Asa grabbed his toolbox and pretended to use all manner of plastic tools to investigate his "grey pets."  I think we need to add a bug house to his birthday list. ;)

3.  We've been listening to our fun catechism cd the past few days, and Asa knows MANY more of the songs/question & answer pairs than I thought he did.  We are using CSPC's children's scripture memorization and catechism program with Asa, so we have worked on the first 4 or 5 with him, but he knows a LOT more than that thanks to the catchy songs.  That has been a fun discovery.  We highly recommend the cds.  They really are catchy and Matt and I find ourselves bopping along to them if they're playing while we drive. :)

4.  Anna Reaghan continues to have baby food for "lunch"--pears are the next new thing we'll try, and then she has finger foods for dinner--green beans, cubes of steamed sweet potato, and/or steamed carrot pieces.  She really has the grab + shove a fistful into mouth maneuver down.  I took a video this week I'll work on converting over the weekend.

5.  We got to play OUTSIDE one day this week!  The high got up to 74 (!!!!!  Our high today is in the low 40s in contrast and more typically)!  Anna Reaghan had pretty much missed her morning nap because of Bible study, but when Asa got up from his nap I kept her up and took them both outside to enjoy some sun.  I usually try to stick with a predictable nap routine--it keeps us all in our best shape--but sometimes you have to seize the moment.  I knew that our temperatures were supposed to fall again soon and that it could be WEEKS before I could have her outside again just to sit and play.  We have been pretty cooped up all winter, so Asa was in HEAVEN and Anna Reaghan just took it all in--poor thing hasn't had much outside time yet in her life!  I have no doubt she'll be chasing Sammy around the backyard with Asa in the blink of an eye. :)

YEA for being outside - and for God's word being planted in Asa's heart! I miss you!
