Thankful Day 22

22.  God knows what I need better than I do

Time and time again God has answered prayers or orchestrated events in my life far differently than I asked for or anticipated, but it is clear after the fact that He knew exactly what I needed--far better than I did.

I had been praying Anna Reaghan would be her fussiest when I met with the lactation consultant yesterday.  Why?  I wanted someone to see her at her "worst" so we'd know what we were dealing with in the worst case scenario.  Instead, she was pretty much the happiest, most content little nursing angel you can imagine and certainly the calmest she's been during a feeding in WEEKS.  WEEKS friends.  I thought to myself, "Of course!" (and I thought to myself, "Where can I buy the cd Betsy has playing in here.. it's working magic!  Or maybe Betsy can  move in with us as she seems to be the baby whisperer.").

But you know what I realized this morning?  God woke me up with a reminder of just how kind He is to me and how He knows what I need even better than I do.  Because AR wasn't fussy and nursed great, we had PROOF that I have plenty of milk (always incredibly reassuring)--she ate the amount she is "supposed" to.  If she had fussed as usual and only eaten so-so, we might be left wondering IF my supply was the problem.  Now, because she was calm and ate well, we know my supply isn't the issue.  It is SO like God to turn things on their head (from my perspective) in order to make them right.

Thank you, God, for knowing what I need and supplying it.  Please help me remember this and the many other times you have shown me YOU know best.
