Thankful Day 16

16.  Wonderful Doctors

When we first moved to Ohio, one of the things I grieved leaving behind was our doctors in Florida.  I cannot put into words how much I loved and appreciated Asa's pediatrician, and I hoped to deliver all our children with the midwife who delivered Asa--she was amazingly wonderful.  God had other plans.

One thing God taught me (again) through this move is that things are for a season.  Dr. K in Gainesville was provided for a season in which we needed a lot of encouraging doctor support through diagnosing and treating Asa' tongue tie.  And my midwife was provided for my first and very long induction, so that it could be handled as patiently and gently as possible.  And she made me feel like a rock star as a first time mom.

God has provided great physicians for us here in Ohio as well.  Dr. M is not Dr. K but she IS all the things I really needed out of a pediatrician.  And she is blessedly calm--something I need each appointment for Anna Reaghan as I want to (over)analyze her weight gain average per day.  She keeps me in touch with the BIG picture and reassures me every time that Anna Reaghan is growing and developing great.  Neither does she dismiss my fears though.  She gives me the tools to feel confident myself--by referring me to the lactation consultant at the breastfeeding center in town or as was the case today, writing us a prescription to address what we all think is reflux that would explain several little quirks we've noted about AR's feedings lately.  Praise the Lord for Dr. M!

In addition, Dr. O cared for us while I was pregnant and delivered Anna Reaghan.  She was not my midwife from Florida, but she too has all the qualities I needed in a care provider.  She is respectful and kind, a cheerleader, and willing to give where I tend to prefer not to conform to some common mainstream pregnancy and birth practices.  Thank you, God!

He sees us and knows what we need.  And I am thankful!
