5 on Friday

1. Mom is here!  Woo hoo!  She drove up on Wednesday, and we get to keep her until Monday.  Hip hip hooray!  She is getting to see Asa walk, feed himself with a fork, eat the new foods he likes, babble all day long, wave bye-bye, tell everything "Hi!", see his new haircut, and be his sweet, sweet self. :)
2. We explored in the big(ger) city today.  We went looking for a scrapbooking store, and it happened to be in the same shopping center as a brand new Hobby Lobby and across from Michael's!  It's a good 30+ minute haul, but it would be worth it to hit all three stores with Asa.... especially if I were armed with coupons! :)
3. We also visited a little fair trade market that sells handmade goods and gifts from around the world.  They said they have a huge stock of Christmas ornaments and nativity sets they start putting out in November.  You can guess what's marked on my calendar now. ;)
4. Matt is in California for the weekend for a cadaver lab where surgeons will be testing out a new instrument he designed.  He had a safe and uneventful trip to get there this morning.  Tomorrow is the lab, and he comes back to us on Sunday. :)  What a whirlwind!
5. I made an appointment for a belated 12 month check up for Asa.  I was trying to gather some more pediatrician recommendations (kind of hard when the mommy friend-making has been slow going), and came up with one that sounds very promising.  Asa goes the middle of September.  We really appreciate prayers that this will be a great fit and that we find doctors for all of us whom we are very comfortable with, especially after leaving some of the BEST behind in Florida.
