Check-Up
Asa had a mini check-up with his wonderful pediatrician this week. It was really just an appointment to get a shot, but Dr. K looked him over, too. We'll go back for an official "well visit" for his 4 month check up later. :)
She said he is doing great and marveled at his strength and control. She said he has excellent head control (she said that a couple times, actually!) and is very strong. She also noted that he is very intentional with his hand movements and can already reach for and grab things and pull them to himself (especially to his mouth). :) Dr. K said he exhibits several 5 month milestones! Lastly, she also seemed surprised at how strong he is when he tries to stand. She suggested that we can start working on sitting with him and that he will probably sit "early." Of course, then Matt started working on sitting right away. :)
Two other funny comments she made were that his head is very symmetrical and he has "skin of steel" as she saw NO signs of any diaper rash. Wow, wouldn't that be amazing if Asa doesn't have crazy-sensitive skin! Between his daddy's eczema and Mommy's eczema and sensitive skin allergies, we thought he'd be "doomed" in that department for sure!
Dr. K had us start giving him vitamin D drops. Research has shown that breastfed babies are often low in vitamin D and it's not something you can increase by adding more vitamin D to the mom's diet (it doesn't increase the amount in her milk). Actually, recent studies have shown vitamin D to have increasing importance for all ages! An easy way to get it is being out in the sun, but sunscreen inhibits that process as well. I found the kind she said tastes the best, and Asa doesn't seem to mind it at all. The best part is that he makes his tongue smacking noise when he eats it (like he did with the gripe water). It is so cute!
We are just SO thankful for Asa's pediatrician. She is truly an answer to prayer for us! :)
