The Adventure has Begun!

So, in case you didn't read the little tag line for this new blog.... go back and read it (at the top)!

We are SO excited, thrilled, and humbled to announce that we are expecting a little one!!! :) Praise the Lord!!!

You probably have some questions, so here are the answers to ones I can anticipate:

• When are you due? June 10
• When did you find out? Sept. 30
• Save me some math guys, how far along are you? Today, Oct. 22, I am 7 weeks exactly.
  
• How are you feeling? TIRED but glad for symptoms that mean things should be going well
• Is this a surprise? This baby is VERY much hoped and prayed for, though we are humbled by God's answer to our prayers! (You know it's not a polite question, but people always wonder ;) ).
  
• Boy or girl? We don't know yet, but we hope to find out in January if he/she cooperates. :)
• Preference between boy or girl? Nope, just a healthy baby!
• Names picked out? Yes, but we plan not to tell until the little one joins us... until then, we hope to hold out with just announcing initials... we'll see if we can stick to that!
• Cravings? Nope, just aversions (chocolate and garlic-y things just sound/smell awful)
• Have you seen the baby? No. :-( Our midwives generally just do a 20 week ultrasound unless one is warranted at another time (the only downside so far to them being quite laid back). BUT, we found out #1 they make a dvd of the 20 week ultrasound at no additional cost (and even provide the dvd), and #2 the local community college here has a radiology tech program that provides FREEEEEEE ultrasounds!! We might try to squeeze one in right before Thanksgiving (when I'd be JUST shy of 12 weeks). Lastly, at 12 weeks (our next appt.), the midwives use the doppler to try to find the baby's heartbeat... that will be a GLORIOUS sound!!
• What about Becca and teaching? I plan to finish as much of the year as possible. My kiddos won't finish until the first week of June, and I can't quite imagine making it allllll the way to their last day (and teacher inservice ends June 9... I really don't think that will happen). My goal right now is to make it until May. We'll see how things go, though, and my secondary goal would be to make it until the middle of April (spring break). Then I tentatively plan to take a leave of absence for a year (since I have tenure now), and we are hopeful that I will stay home full-time after that as well.

The road that brought us to this place has God's fingerprints all over it, and we are excited to share it with you through this blog. We are also thankful to share this time with you as we journey forward further into this incredible adventure.
